Web-to-Lead Explained
Web-to-Lead generates an HTML form that you embed on your website. When a visitor submits the form, Salesforce creates a Lead record with the captured data: name, email, company, phone, and any custom fields you include. The form can include hidden fields for campaign tracking, lead source attribution, and return URLs that redirect users after submission. Web-to-Lead supports up to 500 leads per 24-hour period in most editions (higher in Unlimited).
The generated form posts data directly to Salesforce's servers, so it works with any website platform: WordPress, HubSpot, custom HTML, or single-page apps (using a JavaScript fetch/POST). Once the Lead is created, it can trigger Assignment Rules for automatic routing, auto-response rules for immediate email confirmation, and Flow or trigger-based automation for enrichment or notification. Spam prevention options include reCAPTCHA integration and validation rules on the Lead object. For higher-volume capture or more control, teams often use the Salesforce API instead. Clientell AI can help configure Web-to-Lead with proper field mappings, spam prevention, and downstream automation to maximize lead conversion.
