What is ending

What is ending on 2 Nov 2026?

01

No more releases or support

Nobody maintains the server after this date.

02

The repositories are archived

Both repositories, forcedotcom/mcp and salesforcecli/mcp, become read-only. The code and release notes stay readable.

03

The npm package is marked deprecated

Installing it shows a warning. It is not removed.

What keeps working

What keeps working after it ends?

Pinned setups

A setup that pins a version keeps running, because the package stays on npm.

Everything outside that package

The notice covers only the local DX MCP server. It does not cover your org, Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers, or any other MCP server you run.

The risk is slow. With no maintainers, nobody fixes a bug or a changed login flow. That is our reading of the notice, not Salesforce wording. The project README carries the same end-of-life banner.

Your options

What can you use instead of the DX MCP server?

These sit at different layers, and an MCP client can run more than one. The right choice depends on what you used the DX server for.

Stay on the pinned DX MCP server

Fits when

A short bridge while you plan. Your setup does not change.

Watch for

Nobody will fix it if Salesforce changes an API or a login flow. Our reading, not Salesforce wording.

Salesforce skills

Fits when

Developer tooling. Salesforce says it now delivers its tooling as skills, published at forcedotcom/sf-skills.

Watch for

Skills are instructions your AI client follows, not a server your client calls. Check which of your DX tools they cover.

Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers

Fits when

Records, queries and actions as the signed-in user. Generally available since 29 Apr 2026. Salesforce documents servers for metadata and API context too (some in beta).

Watch for

Enterprise Edition and above. You set up an External Client App in Setup. Salesforce says usage will use Flex Credits once metering starts, and the rate is not published yet.

Another vendor or community MCP server

Fits when

Some cover records and metadata. Cirra AI is one example.

Watch for

Ask who maintains it, how it signs in, and whether your data passes through their servers. Same questions you should ask us.

Clientell MCP

Fits when

A context graph of your org: objects, fields, flows, Apex, rules and permissions, and how they link. It answers what touches what before a change.

Watch for

It is not a drop-in replacement. It does not run the DX server’s build and test tools. Your AI client still deploys through your own Salesforce CLI session.

Checklist

How do you move a Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or VS Code setup?

  1. 01

Find where the DX server is set up.

Look for @salesforce/mcp in the args. Claude Code: run claude mcp list, then check .mcp.json in the project. Cursor: ~/.cursor/mcp.json or .cursor/mcp.json. VS Code: .vscode/mcp.json. Codex: ~/.codex/config.toml.

  2. 02

    Write down what you use.

The --toolsets and --tools flags show which DX tools you rely on, such as orgs, metadata, data and users. That list is what you need to replace.

  3. 03

    Pin the version now.

Change @salesforce/mcp to @salesforce/mcp@0.30.15 so an install cannot pull something different. Keep it until the replacement is proven.

  4. 04

Match each tool to an option.

Deploys and tests: Salesforce skills with the CLI. Record reads and writes: Hosted MCP if you are on Enterprise Edition. Questions about what a change touches: a graph server such as Clientell MCP.

  5. 05

Add the replacement next to the old server.

MCP clients can run several servers at once. Add the new one, then compare answers on the same questions in a sandbox.

  6. 06

Remove the DX entry when nothing depends on it.

In Claude Code, run claude mcp remove with the server name. In the other clients, delete the entry from the config file.

  7. 07

After 2 Nov, check the notice again.

Read Salesforce’s end-of-life issue for any change to the dates or the advice.

Moving to Clientell MCP? The setup steps cover Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Codex, Cursor and VS Code. Clientell MCP works in Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Codex, Cursor and VS Code.

Common questions

Short answers

Is Salesforce shutting down MCP?

No. Only the local DX MCP server reaches end of life. Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers are generally available and are a separate product.

Which Salesforce server replaces the DX MCP server?

Salesforce does not name a replacement server. Its notice points developers to skills at forcedotcom/sf-skills. Hosted MCP Servers are a separate first-party option for records, queries and actions.

Does Clientell MCP replace the DX MCP server?

No. It maps your org and tells the agent what a change would touch. Pair it with the Salesforce CLI or skills if you also deploy from your AI client.

Want a map of your org next to whatever you pick?

Clientell MCP costs $249 a month for 10 people and 1 production org. 14-day free trial, no credit card.

Try it in Clientell MCP: connect your org and ask, “What would break if I change the Stage picklist on Opportunity?” Clientell AI asks before it changes anything in production. See security.
